Located at the easternmost point of the Gaspé Peninsula, Forillon National Park marks the end of the long Appalachian mountain chain. It is no surprise that this area is part of Canada's network of 41national parks. Its many features that are typical of the region include an undulating topography, plant and animal life specific to the boreal forest and alpine tundra, as well as breeding areas for marine birds and mammals. The region's rich cultural history of fishers and merchants who lived in Forillon at the turn of the 20th century is presented at the Grande-Grave Heritage Site. A visit to the Hyman & Sons store and L'Anse-Blanchette will take you back in time to relive this era.
Forillon National Park is open year round. Visitors can explore a network of nine trails to discover magnificent views of the sea and mountains and observe abundant wildlife (black bears, porcupines, beavers, black-legged kittiwakes, cormorants, guillemots, seals and sometimes whales). Other activities available include sea cruises, kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving, sea or pool swimming, tennis, picnicking, cycling and horseback riding.
In the winter, cross-country skiers can enjoy the network of over 40 km (25 mi.) of marked and mechanically maintained trails, with shelters all along the way. Other activities available include off-trail skiing (in the south section of the park), snowshoeing, winter camping and dogsledding.
